Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents in honor of the town where she grew up. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's dad came from the Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sister is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County to California when she was 7 years old. There wasn't electricity. Ryder would read extensively because of the lack of television. Ryder began taking acting lessons in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of twelve years old. In 1986, she got her first big-screen role in the movie Lucas when she was just 15 years old. Ryder was bullied at high school. She hoped that the acting profession would end the way she dealt with bullying. But it wasn't to come to happen. It didn't stop her from following her dreams. Ryder made her breakthrough with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder was later cast in successful roles. In 1993, she was nominated twice in the Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part In The Age of Innocence.
